The wife of John Di Nino, head of the transit union, lives through the Vaughan massacre.
On Sunday night, there was a shooting spree in Vaughan that killed five people and the shooter. Only one person was left alive.
Doreen Di Nino, 66, was taken to the hospital after police and paramedics arrived at the scene of the chaos on Jane St. on Monday, her husband’s office said.
She is the wife of John Di Nino, who is the president of Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Canada.
ATU said in a statement that Doreen DiNino was one of the people killed in the mass shooting.
“We’re glad to hear that she made it through this terrible accident and is having emergency surgery today,” part of the statement said.
Later on Monday, John Di Nino released a separate statement with the title “Mass Shooting at Condo Building in Vaughan, Ontario.”
He said, “I’ve been asked to say something about the terrible things that happened in Vaughan yesterday. It’s clear that this is a hard time for my family, so I’d like to ask that our privacy be respected. I don’t plan to say anything else at this time.”

Investigators say that Francesco Villi, 73, killed his neighbors with a semi-automatic handgun as he went through the condo building where they all lived. He was shot dead by police on Sunday night.
Villi and the condo board of the building had been in a lawsuit for a while. He said that electro-magnetic emissions from an electrical room under his condo unit were hurting his health.
Villi wrote a lot of bad things about the people he thought were to blame for his illness on Facebook and Twitter. These people included the builders of the condo development, various lawyers and members of the judicial system, and people on the condo board.
He named the following in his lawsuit: Rita Camilleri, Dino Colalillo, Naveed Dada, Russell Manock, John Di Nino, and Patricia De Sario.
The bullets that hit Doreen Di Nino probably were meant for her husband.
The names of the victims have not been released yet, but police said Monday that three men and two women were killed in the shooting.
Three of the people who died were, in fact, on the condo board.
