One person was killed and two others were injured during a Phish concert in San Francisco’s Chase Center.
One guy died and two others were injured during a Phish concert at Chase Center on Sunday, venue authorities revealed.
San Francisco police officers discovered an adult male suffering from injuries sustained in a possible fall shortly before 9 p.m. Sunday, a department spokesperson stated. Despite the fact that medics arrived, the man died as a result of his injuries. There was no indication of wrongdoing.
Later that evening, at 9:45 p.m., officers responded to another incident and discovered an adult male with apparent fall-related injuries. The man had non-life threatening injuries and was transferred to the hospital. He collided with another individual, who was also hurt and taken to the hospital, according to the department.
Though additional specifics about how — or why — the injuries occurred were not immediately available, various concertgoer testimonies shared on social media indicated the individuals fell from a portion of the arena’s upper floors.
Kimberly Veale, a representative for the Golden State Warriors and the Chase Center, verified the death was confirmed by the San Francisco Medical Examiner’s Office.
“We would want to express our heartfelt sympathies to the guest’s family,” Veale said in a statement. “We are collaborating with local authorities to ascertain precisely what occurred.”
Juliet Biton, who traveled from Petaluma to attend Sunday’s concert, said she noticed some activity when the jam band played “Destiny Unbound” – more than a dozen individuals were quickly rushing around the section with their phone flashlights on.
Within two minutes, she added, Chase Center staff took out the section where one person had fallen and covered the seats with a black sheet. Additionally, she claimed, medics initiated life-saving procedures.
“I became overwhelmed and left my section in order to gain access to the Chase Center’s sensory room,” Biton explained, referring to a chamber reserved for Chase Center customers seeking a quiet location. “As I walked across the concourse, I noticed several people going out of the venue, appearing inconsolable.”
Bobby Moen stated on Twitter that he was in the front row behind one of the men who fell and witnessed the second person collapse shortly thereafter in another portion of the arena.
“We are rattled and will return home early,” Moen tweeted.
The band had issued no public announcements on their social media platforms as of Monday afternoon. Sunday’s performance was the ensemble’s second appearance at Chase Center.
