A person has been arrested in Los Angeles for the shooting death of an Australian personal trainer.
An Australian man was shot eight times and killed outside of a marijuana store in Los Angeles. A suspect has been arrested in the case.
Azuma Bennett, a personal trainer from Bondi, was found dead outside a store in Windsor Hills last month, just a few weeks before he was supposed to come home after spending two and a half years abroad.
The 30-year-old wasn’t carrying a gun, so his family called his death “senseless.”
After more than a month had passed since the death of the former Waverley College student, police said they had arrested a man.
In a statement, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said, “Homicide Investigators worked hard to find and catch Azuma Bennett’s killer.”
Gabriel Alvarado, a Hispanic man from the Los Angeles area, was arrested for killing Azuma Bennett on September 22, 2022.
Bennett’s murder shocked both Australia and Los Angeles, and it made a Marvel actor angry about how bad crime is in LA.
Frank Grillo, who played Capt. America, was one of the stars that Bennett helped train, and he was saddened by the loss of the 30-year-old.
Grillo told NBC News, “He made everyone feel good about training.”
He said, “I don’t know what’s wrong with Los Angeles that a handsome guy like this gets shot and killed for no reason.”
Windsor Hills is a neighborhood in the middle of Los Angeles that is not part of any city.
Bennett’s mother, Victoria Milton, said soon after her son’s death that he was the “golden apple” of her late husband’s eye.
Bennett said that Azuma had a strong personality that made a positive difference in the lives of many people, including his family, friends, and coworkers.
“Plus the kids and teens he taught Kung Fu to at our Sydney Kung Fu Academy.
“He had a good life, and I am so happy for him.”
Tamara Fortune, one of Bennett’s friends, said that he was “one of a kind.”
“We lost one of the best there was. He had nothing to do with this, “she told me.
“He was nice to everyone he met, and his positive energy and interesting personality kept everyone in the gym interested.
“Take it easy, Azuma, and keep throwing those punches. We love you, mate.”
